English meaning
English Translation: Call that person a true devotee of God (Vaishnava) who feels the suffering of others as their own; Who serves those in distress, yet never allows pride or arrogance to enter their heart! Who honors everyone in the entire world, and speaks ill of no one; Who keeps their speech, character, and mind steady in righteousness — blessed is the mother who gave them birth! Who views all living beings with equanimity, has abandoned selfish craving, and treats another's partner as a mother; Whose tongue never speaks untruth, and whose hands never reach out for another's wealth! Who is free from worldly delusion and attachment, whose mind is rooted in firm spiritual dispassion; Who is absorbed in the nectar of God's holy name — all holy pilgrimages dwell within their sacred body! Free from greed and deceit, who has overcome anger and selfish passion; Says poet Narsinh: beholding such a noble soul redeems seventy-one generations of their family lineage! Devotional Significance: Composed by the revered Gujarati saint-poet Narsinh Mehta in the 15th century and popularized globally by Mahatma Gandhi as his daily morning prayer, this hymn is Gujarat's supreme moral and spiritual treasure.
